6th National Cyber Security Conference

Theme: “Data Protection – Securing Big Data, Understanding Biometrics and Protecting National ID Systems”

The Mona ICT Policy Centre at CARIMAC, UWI, is pleased to announce the opening of registration for the 6th National Cyber Security Conference.

The Conference is to be held November 27-28, 2018, at the UWI’s Regional Headquarters, Mona, starting at 9 am on each of the two days. This year, the theme of the conference is: Data Protection – Securing Big Data, Understanding Biometrics and Protecting National ID Systems.

Panel Sessions at the Conference will address such sub-topics as Understanding Data Protection – Issues and Approaches; Protecting Big Data – Protecting Rights; Biometrics –Tools for Protecting Data and Organizations; Defending against Cyber Threats to National Assets and Evaluating National ID Systems (NIDS).

In announcing the start of registration, Conference Chair, Professor Hopeton Dunn, confirmed that there will be the usual exciting line-up of local and international speakers, including representatives of the Virginia-based Internet Society (ISOC), the Canadian ICT Sector, local and international banking executives, members of the IT and security communities as well as government and academia. “We are looking forward to robust discussions and recommendations out of the five (5) exciting conference sessions to be held over the two-day event,” observed Professor Dunn, who leads a team from MICT and CARIMAC in organizing the event.

The lead sponsor is again the National Commercial Bank (NCB), with other sponsors including RJR Gleaner Communications Group, the law firm Henlin Gibson Henlin and the Spanish Court Hotel. The Canadian High Commission, ITU and ISOC remain key partners.

This year’s 6th event is being organized against the background of five (5) previous successful conferences, attended by a wide range of participants drawn from the ICT, IT, banking, regulatory, academic, telecoms and other groupings from both the private and public sectors.
